In John 15, Jesus is about to leave His disciples and return to the Father by way of the cross. He is preparing His disciples by encouraging them on several levels because Jesus is the Great Encourager.
Gospel of John: Jesus is the Vine
If you were to make a list of chapters in the Bible that sum up how someone is to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, John 15 would have to be at the top of that list. In it, Jesus establishes Himself as the Vine, His followers as the Branches and His Father as the Vinedresser. With this illustration, Jesus outlines the absolutely indispensable characteristics to being His disciple.
